[edit] Smolt
This is the Wiki for http://smolts.org. Here you can view detailed information about computer hardware components, if and how they are supported by the Linux operating system and the different distributions.
Have you ever tried to find out, if a specific computer device (e.g. laptop, sound card, wireless card) you want to buy, works with Linux? If yes, you know how distributed all the information is over the net. Here is the chance to build a solid, updated database.
Have a look at this example entry for a laptop in the database. There you can follow the links for an entry in this wiki.
To search for hardware, you may use this wikis search page.

[edit] Usage
If you want to submit your own profile, install smolt, start the GUI or from a command line do:
# smoltSendProfile
and follow the URL. You will see your profile listing all found hardware. In order to Rate the Hardware, you will need the generated admin pass. Then rate your devices and if you have additional information to share click on their name, and create a wiki page.
Your UUID is also stored in
/etc/sysconfig/hw-uuid
which is why you should run smoltSendProfile with superuser privileges.
in OpenSuSe
/etc/smolt/uuid
